The recent heatwave has seen massive spikes in retail volumes for chilled and frozen goods, according to DHL Supply Chain. Controlled temperature specialist Langdons saw a 13.7% increase in turnover as it felt the benefit of a £9m investment it its Redditch depot. For the year ending 31 December 2011 turnover at Langdons Industries was £67.5m (2010: £59.4m), while pre-tax profit rose to £2.7m from £2.1m in the previous 12 month period. XPO Logistics has renewed its contract with frozen food retailer Iceland Foods for warehousing and distribution services.
Culina has won a new distribution contract with Bute Island Foods to transport its vegan Sheese product to wholesalers and retailers across the UK. The food firm originally ran its Sheese distribution operation from Scotland, however, it decided it would be able to reach a wider market more effectively by switching to a logistics provider with national capabilities and a stronger southern presence.
