International operators running to France have been urged to prepare for the introduction of the Ecotax, a levy on all trucks over 3.5t using 10,000 km of national roads (excluding tolled motorways) and 5,000 km of local roads.
The tax is based on the number of axles and gross vehicle weight and will be collected using an onboard electronic unit fitted by a registered toll system company or by registering direct with the toll operator Ecomouv.
One registered company, DKV Euro Service, already has its online registration process in place for operators running into France.
