The eastbound carriageway of the M6 was closed for almost 12 hours on Monday (28 May) after a fatal accident involving a car and three LGVs, the Highways Agency has confirmed.
The incident, which occurred at 10.48am between junction 1 of the M6 and the M1 motorway at junction 19 (the Catthorpe interchange) involved two Volvo trucks and one Daf, according to a spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police, who were called in to investigate.
One of the truck drivers was killed; the occupants of the other three vehicles suffered no more than minor injuries, said the spokeswoman.
Following the accident, in which one of the trucks shed a large load of wood across the eastbound carriageway, the westbound carriageway was also closed for a while to allow an air ambulance to access the scene.
The motorway was finally reopened just before 10.30pm.
It’s not yet clear how the accident occurred or which companies the three trucks are operated by.
Leicestershire Police says its investigation is ongoing.
