Morrisons has signed a 25-year deal with Ocado to enable it to develop its online grocery home delivery business, using its logistics and technology operations along with a fleet of Morrisons-liveried vehicles. Morrisons has confirmed plans to close the transport operation at its Swan Valley DC in Northampton, bringing in third parties to handle deliveries from the site.
Morrisons has ordered a batch of 37 longer semi-trailers from Gray & Adams. The supermarket’s latest boxes are being fitted with 27-degree BPW self-tracking axles that allow them to meet turning circle requirements.
Bibby Distribution is to operate a third primary consolidation centre (PCC) for Morrisons, with a further two planned by mid-2015 as part of the supermarket’s strategy to boost the efficiency of its national network.
