Wincanton has won a six year warehousing and distribution contract with Basmati rice producer Tilda. The contract covers collection from Tilda’s two production sites in Rainham, Essex and storage at Wincanton’s shared-user site in nearby West Thurrock. The firm will also pick and distribute products by the case and pallet to Tilda’s customers across the UK and Europe using dedicated vehicles, its own fleet and subcontractors. French yoghurt manufacturer Yoplait has extended its contract with chilled food and drink specialist NFT for a further three years. The contract involves NFT storing up to 500,000 cases a week at its Daventry depot, repacking products to meet UK requirements, and delivering to all the major UK retailers nationwide. A shortage of warehousing space in the UK boosted Howard Tenens’ turnover and pre-tax profit in its last economic year, due to the operator’s significant property holdings and an increase in demand.
Transport firms are riding the current Stock Market bubble. This week the FTSE 100 hit its highest level since October 2007 (6,755 on Monday to be precise). While none of the six operators in the MT Tracker basket of transport shares are anywhere near making the FTSE 100, or the FTSE 250 for that matter, the total value of the basket hit a record high today of 1,842.
