Scania-13-11-ASDA

Retailer Asda has taken delivery of the last of 187 new trucks from Scania, comprising 120 for its retail distribution fleet, 55 for its primary distribution network and 12 for its petroleum distribution fleet.

The retail fleet additions are a mix of 420hp 4x2 and 6x2 [with pusher-axle] models with Scania's G sleeper cab.

Stationed at Asda DCs around the UK, they will be used on store replenishment services and are expected to cover 120,000 miles a year apiece.

The new retail fleet trucks include 42 units supplied under the Ecolution by Scania programme, a bespoke service helping operators maximise vehicle efficiency via a combination of advice on initial vehicle specification, driver training and vehicle maintenance regimes.

The 55 primary network trucks, which are comprised of a similar 4x2 and 6x2 model mix, will be operated by NFT on behalf of Asda and will cover 200,000 miles a year, running between NFT's three UK consolidation centres and eight Asda chilled DCs.

The 12 tankers, meanwhile, are all 440hp 6x2 with pusher axles and G day cabs. They will be matched with 42,800-litre, six-compartment aluminium tri-axle tanks from RTN Lakeland.

"Asda and Scania have enjoyed a long-standing relationship which has consistently delivered excellent results, both in terms of day-to-day operational performance and overall transport economy," said Asda fleet contracts manager, John Rogerson, about the new trucks.

"As a key supplier whose operations are integrated into many of our activities - including, for example, tanker support and trailer maintenance - we rely upon Scania to deliver the levels of service and quality our customers expect and demand of us," he said.
