Potter Logistics at Selby distribution centre

Potter Logistics has won a £1m contract with Westmill Foods, building on an existing relationship.

As part of the two-year deal, the operator will handle raw materials for the Yorkshire-based rice milling and packaging facility. It will also provide warehousing and transportation of bulk and bagged rice.

Potter's rail freight terminal and Selby DC are located in close proximity to Westmill's production facility making for an "ideal partnership".

The rice will be delivered into Selby via two main channels. Firstly, Westmill, in conjunction with shipping line MSC, will deliver rice in containers from around the world using the daily multimodal service from Felixstowe. Secondly, Potter will collect bulk rice shipped into the port of Hull.

At Selby, Potter will transfer the containers and bulk loads of rice to a dedicated warehouse, separating the crop by type.

Bob Amon, head of logistics for Westmill Foods, said: “Westmill has had a strong relationship with Potter Logistics since 2005, which has developed into a true partnership.

“The recent development of un-milled rice storage strengthens our relationship with Potter Logistics and enables us to reduce our carbon footprint by transferring inland movements of containers from Felixstowe to Selby, from road to rail.”

Potter Logistics will be exhibiting at Multimodal next month.
