Elddis has put another ten Euro-5 new Actros trucks into operation. The units will be used on trunking activities within the fleet, which comprises standard and longer semi-trailers, as well as shorter length ‘urban artics’. MAN will continue with a two-pronged approach to truck sales in the UK for the foreseeable future, offering operators a choice of new Euro-6 or used Euro-5 vehicles well into 2014.
FMCG specialist Fowler Welch has ordered 130 MAN TGXs, in a deal that will see around one-third of its three year-old Volvo fleet replaced. Included in the predominantly Euro-5 order are five Euro-6 tractors with the same specification. These will be run as part of a wider trial to assess comparative performance and cost-efficiencies. Truck manufacturers need a “massive” spike in sales in December to hit the predicted total of 45,000 vehicle registrations over 6-tonne for 2013 – the last year Euro-5 trucks can be built for sale in the European Union.
