Belgian consolidator 2XL and the male cancer charity Orchid were the two big winners at the fifth annual Asda Supply Chain Awards held in Leeds last week.
Zeebrugge-based 2XL was shortlisted in several categories and picked up the coveted supply chain excellence award from Asda supply chain director Gavin Chappell at the black tie event, which raised £44,500 for Orchid.
Chappell said 2XL was a “true partner” with Asda and “understood we are trying to achieve”. “This organisation has invested millions of pounds in materials handling, technology and trucks to anticipate our needs in the next two to three years,” he added.
2XL also beat off Reed Boardall and CMA to pick up the environmental carrier award though it and 2XL were runners up to McAndrews in the European carrier category. For the second year running, the primary carrier award went to Fowler Welch Ambient ahead of NFT and Freshlinc, while McBurney was named Irish Sea carrier ahead of DFDS.
The top consolidation centre was Ceva Corby, with 2XL again shortlisted along with NFT, the best UK container carrier was Ward Bros and DHL Supply Chain Fuels was again secondary carrier of the year. MSC took the international carrier award while Scania picked up the service provider award. The supply chain innovation award went to DHL Supply Chain’s Doncaster campus while the outstanding service award was collected by Uniserve.
The sell-out awards dinner saw a range of prizes raffled and auctioned, including a private aerobatics display by Tom Cassells, MD of Reed Boardall and three times British aerobatics champion, which raised £850.
