TNT Express has appointed Tex Gunning as chief executive after former boss Marie-Christine Lombard resigned in September.

Subject to shareholder approval, Gunning will take up the position from 1 June.

Interim chief executive Bernard Bot will return to his former role as chief financial officer (CFO) and current interim CFO Jeroen Seyger will take up a senior financial position.

Gunning, a member of the firm’s supervisory board, also sits on the management board and executive committee at paint supplier AkzoNobel.

Antony Burgmans, chairman of the supervisory board at TNT Express, said: “Tex’s extensive business experience and track record in successfully turning around businesses and delivering results make him the ideal candidate in this critical time for the company.”

Gunning said: “I am honoured to be part of TNT Express and look forward to leading the company alongside Bernard, with support from the extended management team. I fully endorse the improvement plan that is being developed and am fully committed to its successful implementation.”

The firm is also planning to appoint Sjoerd Vollebregt as an independent member of the supervisory board at its AGM on 10 April.
