Ballyvesey Holdings has bought Birmingham operator Bird’s Groupage Services for an undisclosed sum. In a statement, the County Atrim-based business, which also owns Montgomery Transport, said: “[We] are pleased to announce that we have completed the purchase of the trade and assets of Bird’s Groupage Services. “Birds Transport & Logistics [the new trading name of the business] will be managed on an autonomous basis with its own management team and will operate separately from the Montgomery Transport Group,” Ballyvesey said. UPS and TNT Express have submitted remedies to the European Commission to address its competition concerns, extending the review period further. The submission extends the EC’s review period by 15 business days to 5 February 2013. The proposed remedies involve the sale of the business activities and its assets. Trailer manufacturer Montracon has launched a full length double-deck reefer trailer following demand from operators for greater carrying capacity within the standard 13.6m trailer length. The 4.7m high straight frame trailer, called Jumbo during its development, has a 3.2m internal height creating 150m3 internal capacity. It can carry up to 52 UK pallets, or 66 Euro-sized pallets, using adjustable decking beams.
