The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will publish the result of its call for information on the UK petrol and diesel market on Wednesday (30 January).
The report is expected to identify whether there are any competition concerns within the UK fuel market to warrant the launch of an investigation.
The OFT began gathering information from the industry, motoring groups and consumer bodies in September, and its decision has been awaited keenly.
Pressure group PetrolPromise has been pushing for a full-blown investigation into the UK oil market for some time now.
