Glendale Transport deliver gourmet reindeer fodder

Palletways member Glendale Transport has delivered 220lbs of reindeer moss to four hard-working reindeer at Richardson’s Garden Centre in Seaham, South Shields. Loss at Evans Transport after depot dispute

North-Devon haulier Evans Transport slipped into the red after being forced to write-down an exceptional charge of £310,000 relating to its Anchor Mill, Barnstable depot. Evans Transport posted a pre-tax loss of £149,552 for the 12 months ending 31 March 2012, compared to a pre-tax profit of £150,391 in the previous period, but said it would have registered an underlying pre-tax profit of £160,000 were it not for the exceptional item. Tesco takes on 25 refrigerated longer semi-trailers

Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]

MEPs move forward on new truck noise limits

MEPs have narrowly voted through a proposal to introduce new legislation on maximum vehicle noise that would see most new heavy road-going trucks restricted to a maximum of 79dB(A) with new off-roaders limited to 80dB(A). The vote, held by the EU Parliament’s Environment Committee on 18 December, also moves forward a plan to introduce an obligatory labelling scheme to inform operators about the noise rating of vehicles in brochures and at the point of purchase. Co-op completes construction of Castlewood DC

Construction has been completed on a new £22m food DC for The Co-operative in north Derbyshire, which the firm says will employ over 1,000 people and create around 320 new jobs. The Castlewood site, which will service over 500 Co-operative food stores in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, will start operation in January with the first deliveries scheduled for March.
