The UK’s brightest female talent within road transport are being called to enter the 2013 Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards.

With seven categories, including director of the year, industry champion, and team leader of the year, the awards aim to highlight the diverse career opportunities available in the sector and raise awareness of the number of talented females excelling in what has long been perceived a male-dominated sector.

Maxine Benson, co-founder of everywoman, said: “The transport and logistics sector is no longer an exclusively male environment, but we need to continue to raise awareness and get the message out about the diverse range of career opportunities it offers. We want to encourage more women to abandon their misconceptions and learn more about the diverse range of opportunities offered in transport and logistics.”

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has assumed the mantle from MAN Truck & Bus as the title sponsor of the Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards.

FTA chief executive Theo de Pencier, said: “Industry cannot be passive in attracting women, and the Everywoman awards are the perfect opportunity to showcase how women can make a career in transport a successful and fulfilling one which is why FTA is delighted to support  this event.”

Nominations close on 11 February 2013 and entries can be made online at www.everywoman.com.

Motor Transport is once again the media partner of the awards, now in their sixth year.

“Motor Transport has supported the Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards since their inception in 2008," said Laura Hailstone, group content editor of Motor Transport.

"Over the last few years we have written regularly about the need for the road transport sector to improve its image in order to attract a wider talent pool of people into the industry, and women are a large part of that pool. There are some great initiatives by the larger logistics firms to encourage more women into the industry, but there is still more that can be done by the mid-size and smaller operators,” she added.

The winners will be announced at an awards luncheon, held at the Savoy Hotel in London, on 16 May 2013.
