MPs voted against a suspension on the proposed 3ppl fuel duty rise yesterday (12 November), despite pressure from Labour MPs, Tory backbench campaigners and lobbying from FairFuelUK (FFUK). A Labour-led motion to suspend the proposed increase in January to at least April was defeated 282 votes to 234. The government is to consider extending the grant system for low-emission vans to larger vehicles, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has revealed.
The FTA has called on the government to speed up its decision over a new lower Thames crossing, after transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin ruled out one of the three possible locations and said a final announcement would be made “as soon as possible”.
