Yodel has reduced and capped the amount of parcels it will handle during the Christmas peak, after the high volumes it experienced last year.
The parcel carrier confirmed it will deliver a maximum of 4.25 million parcels during its busiest week of the Christmas peak to ensure that it provides a successful service for customers and parcels are not left undelivered.
A spokesman confirmed that it had set up four temporary depots at Billingham, East Kilbride, Newbridge and Basildon, also creating an additional 15 contingency warehouses with increased storage capacity at what it expects to be the busiest locations.
A Yodel spokesman told Motortransport.co.uk: “Yodel has invested heavily in contingency planning this year. In order to deliver a successful Christmas for our clients and their customers in 2012, Yodel has reduced and capped the volume of parcels that it will carry during the peak period.”
Training periods for its temporary peak workforce have also been extended and it is currently investing in couriers and owner drivers to assist with increased deliveries in the run-up to Christmas.
Earlier this year Yodel revealed that it would be operating seven days a week throughout the peak period to cope with demand from its e-commerce customers.
