Cambridge-based Welch’s Transport has won a three year extension to its contract with Paperchase.

The firm, which began working for the stationery, cards and gift-wrap manufacturer in 2007, makes collections from the Paperchase’s Thrapston, Northamptonshire DC and delivers to around 120 outlets.

Welch’s sales and marketing manager Mike Bentham said the contract win demonstrated the firm’s “consistently high-quality service delivery”, adding that this had “helped beat off a number of eager rivals” for the new business.

The contract involves deliveries to each outlet one to five times a week using between three and eight vehicles, depending on the time of year. It includes night-time, key drop deliveries and elements of return logistics.

To help service the contract, the operator has invested a five-figure sum in new routing and scheduling software.

Paperchase trading director Yvonne Mulvany said the decision to extend with Welch’s was “based on the company’s sustained performance over the past five years, coupled with their willingness to grow and develop increasingly technological solutions to match our requirements”.
