John Lewis has awarded a three year contract to Hermes, which will see the parcel carrier handle 48-hour home deliveries for parcels under 15kg.

Parcels will be collected from the retailer’s regional depots six days per week and delivered to Hermes’ national hub in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, where they will be sorted. They will then be transported to one of Hermes’ regional depots and distributed to customers via one of its 7,500 couriers across the UK.

The firm, who handle a number of contracts with major retailers including New Look and plus-size clothing brand JD Williams, will also handle returns for John Lewis. Customers will be able to arrange for a Hermes courier to pick up the item they want to be returned via its myHermes service without additional charge.

Justin Cox at John Lewis said: “Having carried out an extensive review within the carrier market, we determined the Hermes courier model offered the best fit in terms of service and value for this element of our delivery proposition. The myHermes solution will also form an important part of our returns service, enhancing this aspect of our online shopping experience to our customers.”

Earlier this month the parcel carrier appointed two new board members to support its plans for growth in the home delivery market.
