Wincanton has won a five year storage and distribution contract with children’s toy and furniture manufacturer Worlds Apart.

Annually, the contract will see the firm deliver 20,000 orders  to around 1,350 locations, including homes and retailers. Wincanton will also oversee  the storage of the firms  goods, storing approximately  3,300 pallets in its warehouses, a throughput of 18,000 a year.

“As we strive forward with our ambitious growth plans and continue to launch new and exciting products onto the market, it is imperative that we have the necessary infrastructure to deliver on these plans,” said Craig Lawton,  financial director at Worlds Apart.

Founded in 1980, Worlds Apart is based in Cornwall but also has offices in China and Hong Kong.

Chris Kingshott, managing director for manufacturing at Wincanton said: “This is a great example of a successful business recognising that in order to grow further it must concentrate on what it does best and leave the rest, in this case its logistics operations, to trusted and proven outsourced experts.”

Wincanton has recently won contracts with a number of other companies that specialise in the children's market, including toy retailer Smyths Toys Superstores, baby and toddler food manufacturer Ella's Kitchen and Morrisons-owned Kiddicare.
