Skills for Logistics (SfL) has started the roll-out of its Logistics Guild and revealed it will be free to join.
The modern day guild, which MT revealed had secured funding last month (17 September), is described as “a member network run by members”.
It is intended to meet the development needs of the 2.4 million people that work in logistics.
“The guild will build the self-esteem of many workers in the sector and improve its image,” SfL chief executive Mick Jackson said last month.
Slotting into SfL’s professional development stairway, a progression ladder setting out the route individuals need to travel to reach specific roles, the guild will also offer members access to a credit union.
There will be other member benefits too, with bulk purchasing being considered that could see participants enjoying cheaper car insurance.
There will also be a jobs board for members within the fledgling guild community. SfL intends to offer free enrolment to the 25,000 apprentices already working in the sector to help establish the initiative.
