Hermes has opened two depots in Coventry and Carlisle, bringing its network of depots and hubs to a total of 24.
The parcel firm says the new sites are necessary to accommodate the expected growth in parcel volumes ahead of the Christmas peak.
The new depot in Coventry is expected to handle around 24,000 parcels per day, with this total rising to 43,000 over the Christmas period, while the Carlisle site will handle 6,500 parcels each day for the firm.
Carole Woodhead, chief executive of Hermes in the UK, said: “These are the latest in a series of depot openings in recent months which clearly illustrates our commitment to investing appropriately to support current and future growth. They will boost capacity in key areas and ensure we are best placed to meet the home delivery requirements of our retail customers.”
The new depots will create over 100 new jobs in driver, warehouse, administrative and management roles, with 30 new positions available in Carlisle and 61 full time and 10 part time vacancies in Coventry. Temporary roles will also be created to assist during the Christmas peak.
Earlier this month, Hermes installed a new automated sorting system at its national hub in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, increasing throughput by 20%.
