Premier Foods expands Jigsaw contract

Haulier consortium Jigsaw, which includes MT Haulier of the Year Downton,  Widdowson and Pollock (Scotrans) as members, has been awarded more business from customer Premier Foods. Jigsaw is now responsible for the management of in-bound freight from Premier Foods factories in the East and South-East of England to its DC in Corby, Northants. London 2012: CitySprint says Olympic volumes down

Parcel carrier CitySprint saw delivery volumes drop in London during the Games. The company, which handles B2B and consumer deliveries, made 75,000 deliveries to London postcodes during the Games. This was a 12% drop in volume compared with the 16 days proceeding the event (23 June to 7 July). Hauliers remain confident despite tough market

Hauliers remain confident about their prospects in the third quarter, despite a weak performance for road freight during the three months to the end of June. The FTA’s latest Quarterly Transport Activity Survey, compiled in July, found that despite predictions of a bounce in April, there was only modest growth in freight volumes in the second quarter amongst its members. Hermes expands South East depot capacity

Parcel specialist Hermes is to open two depots in the South East as it prepares for the Christmas peak. A 52,000 ft² warehouse in West Thurrock, Essex, will be located between Lakeside Shopping Centre and the QE2 Bridge near to the A13 and M25. Hermes will create 60 new jobs at the site in management, administration, warehousing and driver roles. UPS offer period for TNT to run until November

UPS has confirmed that the offer period for TNT Express shares will now run until 9 November. It comes after TNT Express confirmed earlier this month that the European Commission had temporarily suspended the takeover to allow regulators more time to gather information. Regardless, the companies still expect the deal to be sealed by the fourth quarter of this year. The  €5.16bn (£4.07bn) takeover will transform UPS into a €45bn company with global reach.

Potter Group begins official Palletline marketing

The Potter Group has officially begun marketing itself as a Palletline member, following its takeover of pallet network member House of James in May. Palletline now has a dedicated page with contact details on the Ripon-based multi-modal company’s website, after Potter received permission to join from the network’s executive early this year. Culina has signed a deal to distribute Weightwatchers low fat spreads and chilled portfolio through its distribution centre in Stafford.
