City Link parent firm Rentokil Initial says its recovery plan for the parcels courier is on track despite posting an £18.5m operating loss for the first six months of the year. DPD has expanded its international home delivery service with the launch of DPD Direct, collaborating with domestic parcel carriers in 12 countries.
CitySprint has introduced a one-hour delivery-window service for retailers, allowing them to offer greater flexibility in regards customer deliveries. The MyTime service, launched by the same day courier yesterday, allows customers to choose a specific time and date for delivery: including same day, next day, or delivery on another date specified by the customer. Royal Mail is opening eight temporary sorting centres to handle the expected rise in parcel volumes this Christmas. The centres will be dedicated to sorting a ‘significant proportion’ of the parcels handled by the firm before they are distributed to regional depots across the country. Temporary operations will be phased in across the peak period and will open in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Swansea, Bolton, Tamworth, Peterborough, Swindon and Greenford, west London.
