Scania’s board of directors has chosen its executive vice president and head of franchise and factory sales, Martin Lundstedt, as its new chief executive.

Lundstedt will take up his new position on 1 September, replacing Leif Ostling.

The shakeup sees current head of research and development within purchasing, Per Hallberg, appointed as head of production and logistics, succeeding Anders Nielsen. Nielsen becomes chief executive of MAN Truck & Bus.

Hallberg’s replacement is a new member of the board, Dr Harald Ludanek, who is currently head of vehicle development at Scania's parent company Volkswagen.

Some financial analysts believe the leadership shakeup will increase Scania’s influence on parent company VW’s truck operations.
