UPS has added 10 new dual-fuel Mercedes-Benz Axors to its dedicated London 2012 fleet, the first of their kind in the logistic giant’s global 2,500-strong alternative fuel fleet. The long-wheelbase Axors feature a 4×2 drivetrain with a 360hp six-cylinder diesel engine, which has been modified by the Handstaff Group to enable them to run on a dual-fuel blend of biomethane and diesel. TNT Express has said it hopes to see a “positive impact” from its profit improvement plan in the second half of 2013, after reporting a 26% drop in first quarter EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) operating profit.
TNT Express has confirmed that the European Commission has temporarily suspended a merger bid with rival postal company UPS. Parcel carrier CitySprint saw delivery volumes drop in London during the Games. The company, which handles B2B and consumer deliveries, made 75,000 deliveries to London postcodes during the Games. This was a 12% drop in volume compared with the 16 days proceeding the event (23 June to 7 July).
