Training the industry's instructors is key to solving its skills crisis and should not be overlooked, according to the RTITB.

The training board said the industry is lacking skilled trainers as well as drivers and warehouse workers, and recently introduced new modules to its Instructor Academy.

The new options in its training portfolio include fleet instructor and pedestrian pallet truck instructor training.

The academy also works with transport businesses to tailor its training to their specific needs.

Simon Docherty, RTITB Instructor Academy Manager, said: "To help address the shortfall in skills, our industry needs many more Instructors who are better trained and better qualified.

“This is vital for ensuring the next generation of talent gets the training it needs and deserves.”
