DHL Supply Chain’s Consumer division has become the latest – and among the biggest – investor in gas-powered trucks with the replacement of most of the 70-strong fleet based at its multi-user DC at Bawtry near Doncaster, south Yorkshire, with Volvo FM MethaneDiesel dual fuel 6×2 tractor units.
Total commercial vehicle registrations fell during 2012, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), with Volvo faring the worst across the twelve month period. Registrations from January to December were down 5.9% across truck and vans, with the decline directly attributable to lower light commercial vehicle sales. Commercial vehicles have “a very big role” to play in reducing road transport carbon emissions in the future, according to the head of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LCVP).
