DHL Supply Chain has won a new three-year contract with train manufacturer Bombardier.

The operator will operate on-site logistics for Bombardier's Derby factory, managing £27m of of production materials every week.

Managing the inbound goods, DHL will process received goods and manage the warehousing of them.

It will also perform all on site material movements and line feeding of parts to the car body and paint shops, as well as the final assembly lines.

With the help of DHL Supply Chain, the manufacturer hopes to double its train output from 11 cars a week last year to 22 by next year.

The new deal between the businesses will create 48 new jobs.

Robert Moss, senior inventory manager at Bombardier Transportation, said: “Having secured a number of large contracts recently, it’s crucial that we have the logistics in place to support our growth.

"We’re looking forward to working with DHL in fulfilling the target of doubling production at Derby, from 11 train cars per week in 2017 to 22 in 2019.
