Senior traffic commissioner Richard Turfitt will speak at the Microlise Transport Conference, a year after he stepped into predecessor Beverley Bell’s shoes.
Turfitt said he will use the event in Coventry to tell the industry about the Office of the Traffic Commisioners’s work to reform its systems and processes.
Turfitt said: “By the time of the conference I will have been senior traffic commissioner for a year and in a position to update the industry on the continuing work we are doing to reform processes and support compliant, responsible operators and drivers.
“I’ll also outline how we are targeting those who flaunt the rules and how we are making our roads a safer place for everyone.”
Microlise executive director Bob Harbey said: “When the traffic commissioners speak, everyone listens. They play an important role in the safety and continued prosperity of our industry.
“We are pleased that Richard accepted our invitation to update the industry as he completes the first year of his tenure in one of the most important jobs in transport.”
Beverley Bell spoke at last year’s Microlise Transport Conference in her last official function as Senior TC.
She reflected on her 17 years as a TC and said she made “no apologies to all those dodgy, difficult, nasty, dishonest operators that I’ve put out of business”.
Bell also suggested that the cost of an O-licence application was too low, and that an increase would improve the service OTC could offer the industry.
