Yearsley blast freezer

Frozen food specialist Yearsley Logistics has added a blast freezing service at two sites, Belshill and Gillingham, using leased stand-alone freezer units from Dawsonrentals.

Richard Couch, head of commercial at Yearsley Logistics, said: "The Dawson units are a direct response to customer need. We have a number of customers who, though they could handle their own freezing process, find it more economical and productive to use us. It means they can concentrate on what they do best – which is produce quality goods – and let us deal with the time-consuming element of getting that product down to the right temperature level to come into our cold stores for onward distribution."

The latest Dawson unit has been installed in Yearsley's Bellshill depot in Glasgow. The logistics giant offers customers of all sizes a day one for day two delivery service, seven days a week, into major retailers and foodservice outlets.

The Bellshill unit is a Dawsonrentals Giga Blast that can reduce the temperature of up to 31 pallets of product from chilled to -18C in just 24 hours, ready for storage and distribution by Yearsley Logistics. The unit is sealed directly onto an existing loading bay, allowing efficient movement of loads from inbound trucks and then into storage.

MD of Dawsonrentals' temperature control solutions Rod Benham said: "Yearsley Logistics is a prime example of just how to enhance customer service levels by utilising our stand-alone units. For logistics companies with a longer term or larger need, including those looking to get more involved in the growing frozen and chilled sectors, we are also undertaking complete build projects on either leasing or outright purchase terms. The beauty of these units is that they can be complete in about a third of the time of traditional build, and without the disruption to a yard that traditional build can bring."
