Aggregate Industries

Aggregate Industries will expect all its sub-contractors to have at least bronze level FORS accreditation by March 2018.

The decision will affect more than 600 sub-contractors, and Aggregate Industries has committed to paying 20% of the annual FORS subscription fee those in the scheme pay.

Aggregate Industries added that successful FORS Bronze audit passes – and subsequent annual audits – would ensure sub-contractors are no longer subject to its own internal audit procedure.

Gerard Cantwell, head of procurement and Logistics at Aggregate Industries, said: “FORS and Aggregate Industries share a common goal in our commitment to drive-up standards in the road transport sector.

“With FORS delivering a thorough audit process supported by a full range of training packages for drivers and managers, our sub-contractors can only benefit from an even greater focus on safety, efficiency and environmental practice."

Research early this year by FORS found clients were increasingly mandating accreditation to the standard from their subcontractors, with approaching half now demanding the silver level.

A survey of 167 members of FORS found almost three-quarters had been asked to obtain FORS accreditation to gain access to contracts.
