The European Commission (EC) has hit Scania with a €881m (£771m) fine after concluding that it broke EU antitrust rules. It means the commission has now levied fines approaching €3.8bn collectively against Europe’s major truck manufacturers. The European Commission (EC) believes “substantial remedies are needed” before the proposed takeover of TNT Express by UPS can be cleared. In a merger review speech made on Friday (2 November), Joaquín Almunia, EC vice-president responsible for competition, said that “serious competition concerns would arise” if it went ahead without revisions.
