Paper manufacturer Saica has extended CM Downton’s contract for another year without reverting to a tender or benchmarking process. News distribution specialist CM Downton has secured its first contract with Connect Group’s Smiths News.
Last year industry players won their long-waged battle for a government-funded driver training apprenticeship. The Trailblazer pitch had been denied twice previously when the government said it didn’t think training a driver would stretch over the 12-month period needed to meet funding requirements. While the Trailblazer scheme was eventually approved, CM Downton was well ahead of the game with its own 12-month driving apprenticeship.
CM Downton walked away with the big prize of the night – the Haulier of the Year trophy – in front of a sell-out audience of 1,500 at last night’s Motor Transport Awards (13 June).
