Essex County Council is urging freight operators to have their say over the future of the A120 between Braintree and the A12.

It wants the freight sector’s views on five proposed alternatives for a dual-carriageway link on the major east to west route used by HGVs travelling to Harwich and Felixstowe ports.

Essex County councillor Kevin Bentley said: “The A120 is a key route for HGVs transporting goods to and from a wealth of local businesses, ports and airports across Essex and East Anglia. It is essential we have the views of hauliers to create an A120 that works for everyone.”

A short online consultation form has been created to gather feedback, with a closing date of the 14 March.

Essex County Council is also to receive £14m in government funding for a congestion-busting junction to be built on the M11 near Harlow, announced in this year’s Spring Budget.

Bentley added that the funding will transform the road network in the west Essex region, as the M11 is a key route for residents, businesses and freight movements.

“Keeping Essex moving is a priority and we cannot allow our key routes to grind to a halt due to a lack of action,” he said.
