Scottish haulier Ferguson Transport (Spean Bridge) has continued its acquisition drive with the purchase of Fife-based haulier Barclay Bros for an undisclosed sum.

The family run general haulage firm, which has a fleet of 20 vehicles and 30 trailers, will merge with the Ferguson Transport group of companies and trade under the banner of Ferguson Transport and Shipping.

All of Barclays Bros staff will be transferred to Ferguson Transport as part of the deal.

This latest purchase follows Ferguson’s acquisition of the BSW Sawmill site in April this year and Sky Transport in March last year.

The move sees the company, which is based near Fort William, strengthen its presence across the UK and boost its customer base.

Ferguson Transport and Shipping, which specialises in general haulage, rail, shipping and warehousing, said the purchase was part of “a steady growth strategy” that will allow it “to expand on the excellent services, existing business and contracts established by Barclay Bros”.

Alasdair Ferguson, group MD at Ferguson Transport & Shipping, said: “The operations of Barclay Bros Limited are complementary to those of Ferguson Transport & Shipping and, combined, they will strengthen our range of services to the logistics market, and servicing business contracts from the east of Scotland, to the south of England and Wales.

"We are pleased to welcome all new staff to the group who will join our team of over 200 employees, and we look forward to working with them all.”

Ferguson Transport & Shipping, which is headquartered in Corpach near Fort William, has depots at of Kyle of Lochalsh; Mallaig; Isle of Skye; Invergordon; Inverness; Grangemouth; Glasgow and Penrith.

The company also runs its own port and warehousing facilities at Kishorn.
