Amazon is to create 1,500 jobs with a new fulfilment centre in Essex next year, announced just a week after it revealed plans for its new Doncaster warehouse.
The planned centre in Tilbury, Essex, will open in spring 2017, and will be the online retailer’s 13th fulfilment centre in the UK.
John Tagawa, Amazon’s vice president of UK operations, will enable the company to “continue to expand our product selection, support more third party sellers including small businesses with our fulfilment expertise and meet growing customer demand in the UK”.
He added: “We are delighted to be creating more than 1,500 new permanent full-time jobs with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”
The warehouse will be fitted with Amazon Robotics; small robots that lift shelving units and carry them to the warehouse’s pickers and packers.
Just last week Amazon announced its plans to create 500 permanent jobs at a new warehouse in Doncaster, which will be its third in the city.
