Tesco has re-awarded the contract to run its UK distribution centre (DC) transport operations to Eddie Stobart.

The operator signed a deal to run the transport from the DCs for Tesco in 2012 (this included two DCs in the Republic of Ireland).

Following a re-tendering exercise conducted by the supermarket chain earlier this year, the operator has emerged victorious with a new deal at Tesco's seven UK DCs.

A Tesco spokesman said: "Following an extensive tender process, we have awarded our existing outsourced UK DC transport operations contract to Eddie Stobart.

"We would like to thank all vendors involved in the tender and look forward to our ongoing collaboration with Eddie Stobart.”

A spokesman for Eddie Stobart said the firm was delighted by the win.

“The continuation of our relationship marks more than ten years working together and underlines the value of the Eddie Stobart network across the UK and beyond, bringing unrivalled efficiencies and value to our customers.

"We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with Tesco, further leveraging our integrated network and two way movements to maximum effect."

DHL has already been awarded the deal to run Tesco's two DCs in Ireland.
