A rejig of government departments in Northern Ireland has seen the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) brought within the remit of the Department for Infrastructure.

The DVA and its functions, which include goods vehicle enforcement, licensing, and vehicle testing, will be overseen by the newly-created department.

It formerly came under the Department of the Environment.

The Department for Infrastructure was created as part of the Northern Irish government’s Fresh Start Agreement, which involved restructuring government departments and reducing them from 12 to nine.

The Transport Regulation Unit, part of the DVA, last year came close to meeting its goal of bringing almost 4,000 own-account operators into the O-licensing regime.
