Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in the transport sector throughout the world is predicted to rise for the fourth consecutive year, according to a report from KPMG. The analysis predicts the amount raised by completed M&A transactions this year will exceed £52bn, surpassing last year’s figure of £48bn. Norbert Dentressangle has reported an “encouraging” increase in revenue for the first nine months of 2013 for its Logistics divison, while its Transport business returned to growth in the third quarter after seeing a fall in income for the previous six months.
Norbert Dentressangle has signed a three-year contract extension with Vauxhall Motors for the overnight distribution of parts. ND has worked with Vauxhall for 12 years and the extension sees the operator deliver parts to 300 Vauxhall and Chevrolet retailers across the UK. ND has also spent £1m on 35 new trailers serving the contract, which sees it collect orders from Vauxhall’s parts distribution centre in Luton for onward delivery direct to retailers overnight. The threat of a tanker driver strike could now be averted, as the Unite union and fuel distribution companies reach agreement over a new set of proposals. Unite has also been given an extended industrial action mandate of 21 May to allow it time to discuss the new proposals with its 1,200 tanker driver members.
