Wincanton has announced plans to trial a new fleet of remotely controlled trucks as part of a drive to lower emissions and fuel costs. Wincanton has reversed heavy losses and is “back on track” – despite a 9.6% fall in turnover – after a turbulent two years that saw it sell its loss-making European activities and exit a poor performing market in the UK.
Plymouth-based Global Garden Products (GGP) has extended its contract with Wincanton, which will take the partnership to a decade. Wincanton has provided warehousing and distribution for the manufacturer’s powered garden products since 2003, delivering to the main B&Q DCs, and direct to GGP retailers nationwide. The contract is run from Wincanton’s Rothwell depot in Leeds.
