Viridor looks to extend tyre life with contract extension

Waste and recycling contractor Viridor has signed a new three-year tyre management contract with Bandvulc covering in the South West of England from Cornwall to West Sussex and Wales that will see a drive to improve the life of the 300 vehicles' tyres.

Bandvulc commercial director Phil West said: “We are delighted to extend our tyre agreement with Viridor at a time when their business is going through transition from landfill towards transfer, recovery and further recycling operations.”

Retread specialist Bandvulc has appointed a casing inspector to visit Viridor sites throughout the South West to assist with compliance provide valuable feedback on tyre condition. It will also be introducing a number of tyre trials to help Viridor make further improvements to their fleet, including tyre pressure monitoring systems or devices to detect under-inflated tyres. Operating in the waste management sector means that tyres have a high exposure to punctures.

Bandvulc’s nominated service providers will fit tyres from the Bandvulc range and will have tailored pattern selection according to the vehicle and application. Selecting a different steer pattern tyre for the trade waste vehicles, for example, has seen tyre life extended by more than 30%.

Viridor regional vehicle and plant engineer Gary Elms said: “We are excited by some current product trials and innovations that are taking place across several parts of our fleet and it is anticipated these products will increase tyre life providing Viridor with improved operating efficiencies.”
