MT 100

The UK’s 100 largest operators are more profitable than they were last year and employ more people, according to the Motor Transport Top 100 2015, in association with SDC.

Average turnover for the Top 100 is £283.7m, up year-on-year from £272.9m; average pre-tax profit is £11.2m, up year-on-year from £9.5m and the average number of employees is 3,316, up from 3,284.

The MT Top 100 is worth £28.3bn to the UK economy, providing employment for an estimated 331,500 people, equivalent to the population of Leicester.

Barriers for entry to the MT Top 100 continue to rise. Automotive specialist Arcese UK rank 101st with a turnover of £23m, £200,000 below White and Co ranked 100th.

The fastest growing operator in the UK is Lutterworth-based multi-temperature specialist Moran Logistics, which saw a 79% year-on-year growth in turnover.
