Warehouse staff at DHL Supply Chain’s Cherwell Campus site in Banbury, Oxfordshire, are set to strike after further negotiations between the GMB union and the company failed to resolve an ongoing pay dispute.
In a ballot which ended on 6 November, 73% of members voted for strike action and 83% for action short of a strike, GMB organiser David Day told Motortransport.co.uk.
He added that the union would be issuing notice of industrial action without delay - “probably today”.
Earlier this month, GMB members rejected a 2.5% pay offer by DHL at the site on the basis that it did not reflect increases at other DHL sites or elsewhere in the private sector. The union also complained DHL was trying to introduce more weekend working without overtime.
The GMB said DHL had since improved the pay offer but there were "still strings attached”. These are understood to include a reluctance to extend the pay rise to shift premiums.
The union has not yet indicated what the nature of its industrial action will be or how soon it will start.
DHL had not provided any comment on the ballot at the time of writing but a spokeswoman for the logistics firm previously told us it felt its earlier 2.5% pay offer was "generous" in the current economic climate.
