TNT Express has restructured  its UK and Ireland international division sales force as part of a wider strategy to boost turnover and improve customer service.

The move follows a management cull last month at the Dutch-owned delivery company that saw a number of top executives made redundant, including general manager Stuart Stobie.

Stobie was replaced by TNT veteran Tony Jakobsen as head of the UK and Ireland International division.

A TNT spokeswoman told Motortransport.co.uk that the management cull had come to an end, adding that the division was currently restructuring and retraining  its sales team as part of a bid to improve customer relations.

The restructuring is part of the company’s wider Outlook strategy, which is aimed at boosting growth and service levels across the company.

The spokeswoman said: “There will be no further cuts. We are now reinforcing the sales team. We have set up an internal training programme aimed at strengthening the team’s skills and we are also realigning the sales structure, joining the key account management team and the strategic accounts management team together. It is about strengthening our position so we can deliver an enhanced customer service.”

TNT Express is the target of an acquisition bid by larger US rival FedEx for around £3bn. The bid is currently being investigated by European regulators after the European Commission expressed concerns that rivals DHL and UPS may not provide sufficient competition to the merged company, which could lead to higher delivery prices for businesses and consumers.

The European Commission has until 8 December to complete its investigation.
