DX has met with residents of a village who are protesting the proposed build of the parcel courier’s new super hub in Essington, Staffordshire.

Earlier this week around 80 residents gathered at the site on Hobnock Road to protest the new hub, which will cost an estimated £63m to build, claiming it would disrupt the village’s “way of life”.

A meeting was held yesterday between residents and DX representatives to discuss the matter.

A spokesman for the group said: "DX arranged a public consultation on 17th September at Essington Parish Centre as an opportunity for residents and locals to have their say on DX's proposal for a new hub on a 44 acre site in Essington.

“We are grateful for the attendance of these residents and will be taking on board every single piece of input received over the course of the day.

“The constructive feedback will be taken into consideration as we move forward with the next steps of the planning application."

If planning permission is granted, DX will move its headquarters and 400 staff from Willenhall to the 43 acre site.

Local resident Patrick Mann told local news website Express and Star: “I have experience of working for this company, I know the ins and outs of how it operates.

“Let me tell you all, this is something to be feared. They will bring vehicles from all over the country here, more than 200 lorries a night will be going back and forth on our roads.”
