Arrow XL has spent £500,000 on 19 new double deck trailers for its fleet, which it said will provide greater efficiencies in terms of fleet capacity, fuel economy and environmental footprint.

The 19 trailers have been manufactured by Cartwright to suit the bulky nature of Arrow XL's delivery products, which are delivered to the company's four hubs in Airdrie, Enfield, Wigan and Worcester before being sent out for delivery.

Ian Howell, chief executive officer of Arrow XL, said: "Each double deck will be pulling the load of 1.6 single deck trailers, bringing real savings on running costs and benefits to the environment."

He added: "we have made this investment as it helps us become more efficient in transporting customer orders through our network with added benefits in reducing fuel costs."

The new trailers, with their additional lift motors powering the top deck, provide capacity for the planned future growth of the company as the number of deliveries continues to increase.

Arrow XL made two million deliveries in its first year of trading under its new branding in 2013 (previously Yodel XL), and now fulfils over 2.5 million consignments a year.
