Potter Logistics is celebrating 50 years in business with an order for two Mercedes-Benz Antos tractor units.

The vehicles, which will have personalised registration plates to reflect the multimodal operator’s milestone, are expected to be delivered next month.

In 1965, founder Derrick Potter established Topcliffe Transport Company with a single 10-tonne Bedford truck moving grain and fertiliser. Some 20 years later,Potter Group was formed, comprising of six different transport companies, shortly after opening its first rail link in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

The company has since grown to operate over 40 trucks across six depots and in 2013 it rebranded as Potter Logistics.

The company plans to celebrate its anniversary with an event for its 300 staff at Doncaster racecourse in September.

“In this 50 years, the family and the directors are very keen to say thank you to our staff and our customers,” Potter told Motortransport.co.uk at Multimodal in Birmingham last week. “We are fortunate to have people who have made a career out of this business.”
