The Clocs scheme has now signed up 100 champions since its launch two years ago, with more operators urged to come onboard.
Clocs champions are organisations and individual construction projects that have committed to implementing the scheme’s standard within their own businesses and across their supply chains. They typically include fleet operators, construction clients and developers, as well as organisations that, based on the nature of their business, cannot actively implement the standard but are committed to supporting its purpose.
The current list of Clocs champions includes several operators, such as O'Donovan Waste Disposal, Owns (Road Services) and DHL Supply Chain.
John Hix, Clocs project director, said: “Cyclist fatalities are on the rise and it’s a sad fact that too many of these incidents involve construction vehicles. But there has been a huge response to the problem from the construction industry, demonstrated by so many companies, of all sizes, embracing the Clocs initiative and making a true commitment to change."
He added: “As we pass the 100 champions mark, and with numbers continuing to increase, we encourage operators nationwide to look at the impact this work is already having. Talking to us and the other existing champions about improving on-road safety could be beneficial for not just other road users but also their own staff and businesses.”
A recent Clocs expo in London showcased the latest 'safer trucks' from manufacturers and explored the expansion of the scheme to date.
