Leicester-based Premier Logistics has extended its coverage within the Pall-Ex pallet network, following its purchase of the business and assets of Cobley Transport (Reading) last year.
A continued move from straight transport to logistics activities including warehousing, packing and freight forwarding helped Glasgow-based Gordon Leslie Group achieve a 20% rise in pre-tax profit in the year to 30 September 2012. Turnover in the year fell around 8% to £4.8m (2011: £5.2m), but profit before tax came in at just over £487,000 (2011: £405,000). As the economy struggles, UK pallet networks continue to record year-on-year growth. The UK’s pallet networks shifted more than 15.3 million pallets last year, a 7.3% rise on the number moved in 2010. Data from the Association of Pallet Networks (APN) shows that while the UK, and beyond, has endured recession, the networks have continued to outperform the economy.
