The Hub is always pleased to see the efforts of those working in transport and logistics recognised for their dedication to such a vital sector for the UK economy.
Alan Ferguson, chairman and chief executive of Fergusons Transport, was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2015 for ‘services to business in the North-East’.
The Northumberland-based firm remains the largest privately-owned haulier in the North-East, with a turnover in its most recent published results (year ended 30 September 2013) just shy of £20m, employing 258 staff across the business.
Also gaining recognition for his ‘services to Royal Mail and the community’ was Douglas Faulconbridge. The Warwickshire parcel hub operative at Parcelforce was awarded an OBE.
Previous logistics figures receiving honours from the Queen include: Andy Boyle, MD at ABE Ledbury, and former chairman of the Road Haulage Association, who was appointed an OBE for services to the transport industry in 2012; and Hilary Devey, the founder of European pallet network Pall-Ex and former dragon on BBC's Dragons’ Den, who was awarded a CBE for services to the transport industry and charity in 2013.
